Shanghai United Oriental Emergency Medical Center

Recent trends toward privatization in China's healthcare industry have created ideal conditions for improving the quality of healthcare faster than ever before. Shanghai United is leading the way to raise the standards of medical facilities and medical techniques in China. Shanghai United has announced plans to build the Shanghai United Oriental Emergency Medical Center, the first privately owned hospital built in China.

Construction for the hospital has already begun in the Fengxian district of Shanghai on a 30-acre (12 hectares) plot of land with completion projected for May 2005. The hospital will house 600 beds, 22 operation rooms, and 8 emergency rooms. The hospital will not only be the primary care facility in the area but also the primary care facility for the newly constructed Shanghai Qianqiao Retirement Community as well as a new International Exchange Center. In addition, Shanghai United Oriental will partner with the Shanghai Chengxin Technical College. This developing medical community will provide much needed healthcare services in the district, offering more specialized care services, and setting the standard for healthcare in China.

Shanghai United Oriental Emergency Medical Center is designed to be an international care facility. Physicians from China, the United States, and Europe have been invited to join the hospital in order to improve medical knowledge and technology transfer. Shanghai United Oriental will be one of the few hospitals in China able to perform specialized operations, such as organ transplants. Moreover, the hospital will sponsor training seminars and host international experts at the college and the International Exchange Center to improve local medical techniques.

In efforts to improve and diversify care services, Shanghai United Oriental Emergency Medical Center will be supplied with medical equipment from Holter, DMS, Seimens, and Mediland. In addition, the hospital is making arrangements for medical equipment companies to provide additional technical training and support for hospital staff and technicians.
